Mechanical oscillations of the guided missile are reduced by damping systems incorporated in the missile, or between missile and carrier plane. In the missile body the damping system (54,56), if not in the missile nose then the system (54,56) is housed in the gas cylinder compartment (44). The system can be contained within the cylinder itself to the same effect. Damping is by springs, leaf, rubber or coil but can also be composed of a friction system or a system based on viscosity factors. Additional components include the overall absorber (48) housed in space (44).
