The system has a 3-phase electrical system on board, at least one first and second propeller motor (23-27), 12-pulse current converters (18-22) supplying the motors that are connected to the on-board electrical system (12,13) and each have a d.c. intermediate circuit with an intermediate circuit capacitor. The capacitors differ to an extent that the harmonics are minimal when both motors are drawing the same power. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: a method of operating a ship.
