Locking mechanism (100) for door or window leafs comprises at least one driving bar (1.1, 1.2) movably attached to the door leaf, a driving toothed wheel (5) positioned on the leaf and forming a gear (8) with a toothed rack section (2.1, 2.2) of the driving bar, and a snib interacting with one end region of the driving bar lying opposite the driving toothed wheel on movement of the driving bar and improving the locking of the door leaf against the door soffit. The end region of the driving bar is in contact with a rotating element having an ovoidal, non-circular curved body (3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4) which tilts the end of the driving bar on its translatory movement in a direction perpendicular to this direction and is clamped in a pocket. An Independent claim is also included for a door or window for a building, container or vehicle equipped with the above locking mechanism.
