The ground spike (10) rides in a longways slotted guide tube (4) joined (2,3) to the ladder stringer (18). The tube slot has two engager grooves engaged by a service lug (11) with fitted detent (12) to arrest the spike in ground settings. The tube (4) terminates in a top buffer of elastic (8) to form an end plug and at the same time act as back stop for the spike. The spike comes complete with fixer screw (15) at the top end of the tube (4) and additional foot fixing (14). Otherwise the spike can be retrofitted complete with tube etc using the shim (7) to allow for different stringer thicknesses.
