Recovery of at least two different paper fractions, from pulped used paper for recycling, the fraction which is less well pulped is separated for further intensive pulping into the second fraction. Sorting raw paper material into at least two different paper fractions, the raw material (R) is combined with water (W) in a pulper (1), and the two types give a different pulping action through their fiber bonding characteristics when wet. The pulp (S) is divided at a separation stage (2) into a widely pulped fraction (6) and a less pulped fraction (5). The less pulped fraction is passed through an intensive pulping stage (3), to give a pulped fraction (7). The two pulped fractions have different qualities.
