The invention relates to a method for transmitting multicast messages in a radio system, more particularly a UMTS mobile radiotelephone system, wherein a multicast message is addressed to a series of recipients (MS). The multicast messages can be assigned to different multicast services, wherein a mobile station (MS) should only be able to read multicast messages of certain multicast services. In order to be able to read multicast messages of the desired multicast services in a targeted manner with little technical complications, the multicast messages are fed on the transmitter side over a transport channel (2) of a physical layer (PL), which represents the multicast message in data signals (6-9) that are transmitted over a physical channel (1) to the physical layer (PL) in the mobile station (MS).
