The roll (9) of staples is wound from a flexible strip consisting of straight pieces of wire and possessing a pull-tab. The wire pieces are conveyed to an appliance bending them into U-shaped pieces. The U-shaped pieces are conveyed to a stapler and bent into staples. The ends of the wire pieces in the roll are bent radially outwards.
