The laser engraving method uses laser pulses with a pulse duration in the range between single femtoseconds and single nanoseconds, with initial expansion of the pulse form, subsequent amplification and final compression of the amplified pulse form, for increasing the laser power. The expansion and compression can be provided via respective diffraction gratings. An Independent claim for a laser engraving device for a printing plate is also included.
