Plasticized rubber is fed at a preset temperature and at a specific volumetric flow rate to a twin screw extruder (2) for combining with other ingredients of a compound. An Independent claim is made for a process plant including a short screw extruder (5) connected directly to a gear pump (3) whose outlet connects directly with the twin screw extruder. Separately controlled drive units (4, 6) power the gear pump and short screw extruder.
