The system has a transmitter-receiver (11,..) with a look-up table (14,..), a positioning system (12,..) for determining a cell in the user's geographical area a and an arrangement (13,..) for selecting a communications channel corresponding to the cell from the table and informing the transmitter-receiver of the channel for sending data to it and of at least one other channel of another cell for receiving data from it. The system has a transmitter-receiver (11,21,321) with a look-up table (14,24,34), a positioning system (12,22,32) for determining a cell in the relevant geographical area for a user and an arrangement (13,23,33) for selecting the communications channel corresponding to the cell from the table and informing the transmitter-receiver of the channel for sending data to the transmitter-receiver and of at least one other channel of another cell for receiving data from the transmitter receiver.
