In the first stage, with the wash drum (13) still, water without detergent is directed into it and over the washing, through the bypass (6) inside the collar (9). In the second stage, with the drum moving, a set quantity of water is passed through the detergent delivery chamber (19), and carries detergent between the wash drum and the wash liquor drum (9). In a third stage with the drum moving, supply of water with no detergent is continued through the bypass into the wash drum and onto the washing, until the total influx is sufficient to completely wet the washing.
