The backrest structure is hinged to a support structure (1) via locking/adjusting fittings (2,3), connected by a shaft (5), and released by an actuator element (4). The connection shaft is connected free from play in release direction, to the fittings, but permits turning relative to the first actuator element in the opposite direction. A drive section (5a) of the shaft engages into a drive aperture (2a) of the first fitting. This has a contact face to engage with the drive section when it pivots in release direction, and a release aperture permitting pivoting in opposite direction.
