Hydrogen cyanide (hydrocyanic acid) production by dehydration of gaseous formamide in presence of atmospheric oxygen is effected using a catalyst containing metallic iron or iron oxide. An Independent claim is also included for use of ordered packings of steel and iron oxide on an aluminum oxide carrier as catalyst in hydrogen cyanide production by dehydration of gaseous formamide containing atmospheric oxygen.
