An optical data carrier comprises a preferably transparent substrate with an information layer on its surface that is writeable and readable with blue, preferably laser light, whereby the information layer comprises a phthalocyanine dye stuff as a light absorbing compound. An optical data carrier (I) comprises a preferably transparent substrate, optionally coated with at least one reflective layer, with an information layer on its surface that is writeable with light, optionally at least one reflective layer and optionally a protective layer or further substrate or a covering layer, that is writeable and readable with blue, preferably laser light, whereby the information layer comprises a light absorbing compound and optionally a binding agent, whereby the light absorbing compound is at least one phthalocyanine dye stuff. An Independent claim is included for a process for production of optical data carrier (I) by coating a preferably transparent substrate optionally having a reflection layer coating with phthalocyanine dyestuff, optionally in combination with suitable binders and additives and optionally solvents followed by a protective layer or further substrate or covering layer.
