The lifting device (10) with a support structure (18) is for overcoming the height difference between a starting position (A) and an entry position (E) in an entry area (I) for wheelchairs into a railway wagon (1). The device has installation equipment for fixture to the wagon, and can be brought to a usage position (G). The installation equipment (1,11,12,13,14,15) has storage components (13,15) so formed that the lifting deviec is movable inside the wagon between the usage position and a rest position in a direction vertical to a movement position between the starting position and the entry position. The installation equipment is so formed that the lifting device is displaceably fixable. It is provided with a longitudinal retainer and with at least one vertical support. The lifting device is movable by a linear motor.
