A flat areal element (1.1) forming an embedded base of a building seal takes the form of a coarse-meshed fabric which consists of synthetic fibers and incorporates spaced distance pieces (2). The latter are distributed over an area and protrude from the fabric by an amount (H) corresponding to the minimum dry thickness (D) of a proposed layer of sealing material.
