The heater has a burner and beaker-shaped heat exchanger (10) with hollow cylindrical wall section and a heat carrier inlet (18) and heat carrier outlet (20) which are both arranged at the first end area (16) of the wall which faces the burner. The heat exchanger can have an exhaust outlet (22). The heat exchanger is preferably circular ring shaped with the heat carrier inlet and outlet diametrically opposite one another.
