A remote small-scale waste water treatment single batch reactor (SBR) has a control system continually monitors water depth by ultrasonic or pressure detector. The control system especially has hardware and software for flexible adaptation to changing load inputs. The system further has integral software plausibility checks, determines necessary functions and self-tests for faults. The system further passes on fault information via a communications module, executes remote maintenance and accepts new software. The control system is used in association with the equipment described in prior claim 100 22 133.5.
