The security barrier between the aircraft cockpit and the cabin, especially in large passenger aircraft, is an armored double door structure with a passage lock between them. The locking mechanisms are set so that only one door can be opened at a time, under control from the cockpit, and the door towards the passengers cannot be opened from the cabin. The doors are locked through the effects of take-off, when the undercarriage is relieved of the aircraft weight, and the locking action is released on landing when the undercarriage is under a load. The secure space between the doors can accommodate toilets and catering facilities for the cockpit crew.
