Device comprises a flow body (1) supported in a gas flow (4) by a support element (2). The connections between the flow body and the support element and between the support element and the base (3) are almost rigid without mechanical linkages or bearings. A sensor is uses to generate a signal that is a measure of the force acting on the support element due to the flow around the flow body and thus a measurement of the flow velocity.
