Method for data acquisition, logical processing and characterization of furniture items (1) in a storage building, whereby each furniture item is given a transponder (2) with a memory so that furniture details can be written to or read from the label using a read-write head (5). The storage building is divided into floors and areas and a data catalogue is created in which furniture details are read in from the transponder and allocated to a corresponding floor and storage area.
