A method for the input of input elements, i.e. graphical or alphanumeric signs or commands, into an electronic device, in which during generation of a certain sequence (A) of directional signals (o,u,r,l), an input element (E) assigned to this directional signals sequence is ascertained according to an assignment rule as an input element (E) input by the user, on the basis of a corresponding actuation of the control elements (1) by a user.
