Hot plate welding of plastic door and window frame profiles with a sealing strip groove involves removal of sealing grooves close to the mitre-cut surfaces prior to heating and compression of cut faces
Profiles (1,2) are cut to length and mitred. Sealing strip grooves (7,7';8,8') are removed at the edge of the mitre cut surface to a depth (9) from the cut face equal to or greater than the forward movement of the profile during welding. Cut surfaces (5,6) are then heated and the profiles pushed together to effect the weld. Profiles (1,2) are cut to length and mitred. Cut surfaces (5,6) are then heated and the profiles pushed together to effect the weld. In the case of profiles which have preinstalled seals, the seal either remains in position during removal of the sealing groove at the cut face edges or is removed with the groove. Independent claims are also included for: (1) use of the process for welding plastic profiles with sealing strip grooves; (2) process equipment which includes a milling machine and holder which accepts two profiles so that the welding faces are parallel to and opposite each other with a gap between them equal to the milling head diameter minus twice the depth(9) of removed material.
