A test person or test body is positioned on a vehicle seat on which a flexible measuring mat has been placed. The body/seat system is excited to vibrate, e.g. by traveling over a bad stretch of road, and signals from force sensors are added in phase. From this total signal, the frequency response of the body/seat system is determined, and the surface integral of the frequency response is determined up to an end frequency. The value of this surface integral is used as a rating value for the dynamic sitting comfort of the seat upholstery.
