Method for earth fault monitoring for a power rectifier drive (3, 4, 5, 7) in which a capacitor (40) is connected to a voltage source (1) and before connection of the power rectifier driver to the voltage source a test voltage is applied between a capacitor terminal and earth. A switch for connecting the current rectifier to the voltage source is only activated when the potential of the capacitor terminal changes by a preset amount. The invention also relates to a corresponding device.
