An exhaust gas outlet (7) from the exhaust gas manifold (5) is sealed from the inlet (2) to a turbine by a pivoting flap (9) located in the housing of a turbocharger (1). A flange (4) connects to a second turbine which is in series with the first. The function of the flap diverts the flow of exhaust gas so that its full mass flow is available to drive the second turbine. The flap preferably should be manufactured from material with a high temperature and oxidation proof properties.
