Detecting a liquid/liquid boundary between two liquid phases separated from each other comprises producing magnetic fields in each liquid phase and different magnetic measuring signals characteristic for each phase in both phases. The layer between the liquid phases is localized so that one characteristic measuring signal transfers into the other characteristic measuring signal. An Independent claim is also included for a device for detecting a boundary surface between two liquid phases separated from each other comprising a device for producing a magnetic field in each liquid phase and for producing magnetic in both phases.
