The type plate provides optically-readable data specific to the automobile and is made of a temperature-resistant thermoplastics material, provided as a housing (16) with a dished recess (15) containing a transponder (20), closed by a thermoplastics cover (30), the welded contact zone between the housing and the cover providing a combination product with the transponder. Data specific to the automobile is recorded electromagnetically in the memory of the transponder for electronic read-out.
