Method for especially temporary finishing of textiles, especially synthetic textiles, comprises applying a hydrogel to the surface of the textile, especially its fibers. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Textiles, especially synthetic textiles, treated in this way; (2) The use of hydrogels (I), which especially are micro- and nano-scale hydrogels, optionally in cationically modified form, for temporary finishing of textiles, preferably synthetic textiles, especially textile clothing; (3) The use of (I) on such textiles as matrix system for moisture absorption, especially with swelling of (I); (4) The use of (I) in laundry and/or other detergents, e.g. laundry after-treatments, especially rinses, sprays or ironing aids; (5) Laundry and/or other detergents, e.g. laundry after-treatments, especially rinses, sprays or ironing aids, containing (I), especially as aqueous dispersion.
