Hydraulic cylinder (H) comprises a cylinder (1) containing a piston (2) having a piston rod (4) protruding out of an opening in the cylinder. The piston is displaced in the cylinder on pressurization of at least one pressure chamber (D2) of the cylinder and is fixed in the displaced position by clamping devices (K). The clamping devices are assigned to the piston and interact with the inner wall (34) of the cylinder. Preferred Features: A hydraulic line (HZ) to the piston assigned to the piston rod or a front surface (2') of the piston is used for hydraulic operation of the clamping devices. The clamping devices are one or more sections (14) of the piston casing.
