At the time of commissioning of a tool or robot, position errors are measured and stored in a compensation table in the digital control. These values are used in generation of guide values to compensate for errors. Deviation values are measured between tabulated measured points. During processing actual positions are measured with additional measurement devices and compared with corresponding set positions. To improve compensation the tables are adapted by expansion of the compensation table with the measured points. An alternative method for improvement of compensation involves adaptation of the measurement points in the table using the measurement values.
