Method has the following steps: determination of a process model; analysis of whether an executable expression containing audit trail specification is assigned to the process model or a process model containing activity; dynamic evaluation of the executable expression using a variable that is contained in the context of the process instance and not in the process model; and writing of the audit trail for the process instance or the activity of the process instance according to an evaluation result for the executable expression. The invention also relates to a corresponding workflow management system, a data processing program and a computer program product.
