Impregnated compound fiber structures are produced using a fiber preform held in a cavity, where the two sections forming the cavity are moved apart to form gaps for resin to flow in with a vacuum
To produce fiber-reinforced plastics components, in a resin infusion or vacuum process, the fiber preform (2) is held (1) for impregnation within a cavity enclosed by at least two sections of the assembly. The two sections are moved apart, away from the fiber preform, to form a gap (5) between them and the resin is introduced while the cavity is evacuated. After complete impregnation, the sections are moved together to force the resin out of the gap.
