The device has a first lifting element with spindle (5) and spindle nut, for movement along a first path, and a second hydraulic lifting element with cylinder (9) and piston (8), moving along a second much shorter connected path. The spindle nut is formed on its outer side like a double piston rod, and is guided in the synchronous cylinder via a ring piston on the piston rod. The press ram (2) has an aperture (10) to contain the spindle. The spindle is turned by a drive (4), pref. a hollow shaft drive.
