摘要

To clean an exhaust gas soiled with soot, it is treated by heterogeneous catalysis. An element (3), coated with catalyst material, acts as a direct electrical heater to the required reaction temperature for catalytic oxidation of the gas flow over it through suction or pressure. Soot particles (4) adhere to the catalyst surface and are oxidized into reaction gas products. An electrical field is formed by a high voltage in the gap between the coated element as one electrode and a further electrode. The force lines of the electrical field are at right angles to the line of the exhaust gas flow. The element with the catalyst coating is always at the zero potential of the high voltage.
