The system has a hydrogen generating unit with a reformer and gas cleaning stages. The unit is connected via a line with a heat exchanger to an anode connection of a PEM fuel cell with at least one anode and cathode side outlet line with heat exchangers. At least one of the heat exchangers is connected to a further heat exchanger connected to a heat sink for the heat arising in the fuel cell system for internal domestic use. The system has a hydrogen generating unit (1) with a reformer (2) for converting hydrocarbon gas and water into hydrogen and other products and gas cleaning stages (3). The unit is connected via a line (5) with a heat exchanger (4) to an anode connection (6) of a PEM fuel cell (7) with at least one anode and cathode side outlet line (8,9) with heat exchangers (10,11). At least one of the heat exchangers is connected to a further heat exchanger (12) connected to a heat sink (13) for the heat arising in the fuel cell system for internal domestic use.
