The monitoring device has a signal source associated with each window, for providing a signal when the window is opened, a temperature sensor positioned adjacent the hot water feed for each room heater and an evaluation circuit with an integrated sound and/or light signal source. The frequency of the sound and/or light signal can be altered in dependence on the time for which the window remains open.
