The method involves controlling the position of a window pane or sliding roof depending on a measurement signal from a light sensor. The window pane or roof is moved to the closed position if the intensity of the light detected by the light sensor falls below a threshold value. An open position can be stored and restored if the light intensity increases above a threshold. Independent claims are also included for: (i) a controller for implementing the method: and (ii) the use of a light sensor in an air conditioning system to control the position or displacement motion of a window pane or sliding roof.
