A surface modified hard and wear resistant compound inorganic material combining dirt and water deflecting properties and containing three components, i.e. a substrate, a porous ceramic or metal coating structure, and an inorganic nanocomposite material which fills the pores of the porous ceramic material is new. A surface modified compound material giving water repellant and dirt repellant action, an antiadhesive effect, good wear resistance, substrate corrosion protection, and having electrical insulation properties, at least three components, i.e. a substrate in metal, plastics, or ceramics, which covers part or the whole of the surface, a ceramic, metal, or cermet of porous structure as the second component, obtained by plasma spraying, thermal spraying, sintering of powder layers of these materials (e.g. with binders), deposition from the gas phase, (CVD,PVD) or fro the liquid phase (sol-gel-technique) electrodeposition, and possibly other processes. The third component is an organic/inorganic nano composite material which fills the pores of the second material and can also cover the surface. Independent claims are included for: (1) a process for production of surface modification involving production of the first component by thermal or plasma spraying; and (2) a nano composite layer cured by irradiation with microwaves.
