Separating particulate or drop-like impurities from carrier fluid comprises introducing fluid with impurities into annular chamber, removing carrier fluid from channel and removing impurities from chamber
Separating particulate or drop-like impurities from a carrier fluid comprises introducing the carrier fluid charged with impurities tangentially into an annular chamber (12) containing a radial rotor (3) with a central channel (8); removing the carrier fluid liberated from the impurities from the channel; and removing the impurities from the chamber. An inlet speed of the inlet flow and a peripheral speed of the rotor are modulated so that the inlet speed on the periphery of the rotor is the same as or more than the periphery speed. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) operating an inertia separator for separating particulate or drop-like impurities from a carrier fluid; and (ii) an inertial separator for separating particulate or drop-like impurities from a carrier fluid. Preferred Features: The inlet (13) of the separator is arranged and/or structured so that the inlet flow (15) flows in the rotating direction of the rotor into the chamber.
