The air bag has a gas sack inside a flexible chamber with a gas generator. An air outlet (E) is provided for the gas to be allowed to escape from the flexible chamber (2) without passing the outflow openings (24a,b). Inside the flexible chamber is a very high pressure and an accelerated escape of gas from the gas sack can be achieved into the surroundings. The flexible chamber has a flexible shell (20) which is separated from the additional areas (A) inside the gas sack.
