Method for incremental position determination of two objects moving relative to each other, whereby a pair of position dependent, incremental sampling signals are generated that have a fixed phase displacement relative to each other. The signal pair are fed to a transformation table, which is used to generate a corresponding pair of output values. The transformation table is dynamically updated during position determination.
