In order to tune an antenna and frequency diversity reception system with n antennas (A1-An) and m reception frequencies to the best antenna-frequency combination, an IF stage (Z1-Zn) is assigned to each of the n antennas (A1-An). For each of the n x m possible antenna-frequency combinations, a quality signal (Q1-Qnm) representing the reception quality is generated in the IF stages (Z1-Zn). A digital signal processor (DS) determines the best antenna-frequency combination from the n x m quality signals (Q1-Qnm). The selected antenna (A1) is switched through to the digital signal processor (DS) via a multiplex switch (M), and the assigned IF stage (Z1) is matched to the determined reception frequency.
