A novel copolymer obtainable from at least one alpha-olefin monomer and one functional monomer using a coordination catalyst, where the catalyst and/or monomer are irradiated with electromagnetic radiation is new. An Independent claim is also included for preparation of the copolymer from at least one alpha-olefin monomer and a functional monomer by irradiation of a coordination catalyst and/or monomer with electromagnetic radiation, e.g. IR or UV radiation.
