Washing device for the cylinders of a rotary printing machine has a wash unit and a capture basin (2) for capture of the residues of the washing process. The capture basin is connected to an outlet line (7) that can be shut-off by means of a blocking device (8). A water supply (11) is connected to the capture basin and a cleaning device (10). The latter also has a supply (12) for cleaning agent. An Independent claim is made for a method for removal of washing residue from a washing device for rotary printer cylinders. Method has the following steps: closing of the blocking device; inlet of water; operation of the cleaning device; and opening of the outlet.
