The inflation device incorporates a sealed bottle (40) filled with gas under pressure held in a pressure-resistant container (50). The top end of the container screws onto a valve body (10). A hinged handle (31) pushes a plunger (32) with a seal (322) and a fixed pin (33) engaging in a slot (321) to limit its motion. The plunger opens a spring-loaded (16) conical valve (221) to let gas flow into a side passage (121) leading to the fitting engaging the tire valve (122). A rod (22) extending from the valve carries a pin (222) which pierces the top of the bottle to release the gas. An O-ring seal (25) surrounds the pin and presses on the top of the bottle. Gas bleed channels (15) vent from the container any gas which leaks past the seal.
