Metallurgically (chemically) converting metal oxide waste in the form of oil-containing and oil-free slurries and dust from a metallurgical plant, steel works, rolling mill or foundry comprises introducing compressed air, optionally dried, or inert gases via lances, hollow electrodes, delivery chutes or conveying screws. Preferred Features: A sump containing scrap, metal chips and other materials ad slag formers is produced and poured into a working aggregate. Brown coal coke, bituminous coke, petroleum coke, graphite, anthracite or their mixtures are added to the waste. The slag produced is post treated during the melting process to recover metals.
