The wall element (25) for the lining of surfaces has a profile on the two outer longitudinal sides and on an outer edge has a right angled end face. A sound insulating material in plate form lies flat on the front side of the profile, and at least one stabilizing plate (31) is provided on the back of the profile and connects the two profiles and maintains a predetermined spacing. The front side of the wall element has a covering (33) which is guided around the outer edges of the profiles and fastened on the rear side. An Independent claim is included for a procedure for the assembly of a wall element.
