Novel polypeptides (A) that are specifically capable of binding immunoglobulin E antibodies. Novel polypeptides (A) that: (i) include the sequence Gln-Glu-Leu-Asp-Tyr-Leu-Thr-Arg-His (S10); or (ii) include the sequence Lys-Val-Thr-Ala-Gln-Glu-Leu-Asp-Tyr-Cys (S15), obtained as a 12 kD fragment in trypsin cleavage of Staphylococcus aureus enterotoxin B; or (iii) are homologs or derivatives of (i) or (ii) able to bind immunoglobulin E (IgE). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) nucleic acids (NA) that encode (A); and (2) method for preparing (A).
