Hammer drill comprises a tool head with a cutting body (5) having at least one front face (11, 12), at least one rear free surface (13, 14), and at least one end cutting edge (9, 10) separating the front face and the free surface. The front face and the free surface have breaking edges (19-21, 23-25) which change into each other in a ring-shaped region lying centrally to a longitudinal axis (a) of the hammer drill. At these breaking edges the front surface and the free surface change into each other in a recess (8) cut into the cutting body. Preferred Features: When viewed from the side the recess has a U-, V- or cup-shaped cross-section.
